Monthly Minutes

We had a very enjoyable night and started this off with our initial 30 minutes to chat and catch up, our ‘social’! During this time, we welcomed eight guests and new members!

We started the meeting off with an overview of venues that are scheduled or suggested for field trips over the next few months as well as what exhibits were coming up in the city.

Then we presented our speaker, Nick Fansher, who has a degree in Fine Arts from OSU, He proceeded to show us some fabulous nighttime shots that looked so complicated.......but then he taught us a whole new way of using our strobes/flash - we had a blast! Most of us had brought in our cameras, tripods and flash units and he showed us how to set up a shot, set it for a slow exposure, and then walk around with your flash setting it off your hand held flash on objects/scenes that were some paces away from your camera.....and even setting off the flash a few times to show all in one frame......Nick called this "painting with light".

In addition, this method/process can be used to fill in daylight shots, even in the brightest sunlight to great effect.

For our competition, 39 prints were submitted in a wild life category and the winner was a fabulous shot of a tiger sitting on a boulder surrounded by snow and trees - beautiful!
